Biography

The books came first, and the readership came later — decades later, in fact. Arthur Walkington Pink was an English Bible teacher whose writing did far more work after his death than during his life. He was, by most accounts, little known while he was alive. He has since been described as one of the most influential evangelical authors of the second half of the twentieth century.

What he is remembered for is exposition: the close, patient explanation of biblical text from a Calvinist, or Reformed, standpoint. His work is credited with reviving interest in that tradition among readers who might otherwise never have encountered it, and that revival is largely why his name still circulates.

Born in Nottingham on 1 April 1886, he died on 15 July 1952. The reputation arrived afterwards, built almost entirely on what he had written rather than on any platform he held in his own time.
