Biography
The voice that reached most people who encountered him was a broadcast one. For much of the mid-to-late twentieth century, Billy Graham's live sermons travelled by radio and television and by way of world tours, which is how an audience far larger than any single hall could hold came to know his preaching.
He was born in Charlotte in 1918 and became an ordained Southern Baptist minister. Over a career that ran more than six decades, he built a reputation as one of the leading evangelical Christian figures in the United States, and then beyond it. He was also an advocate for civil rights.
His work is still circulated through Billy Graham Evangelistic Association channels at billygraham.org. He died in February 2018.
