Biography
Most people who come across him hear him before they read him. His voice belongs to Insight for Living, the radio programme he built out of the organisation he founded of the same name, now based in Frisco, Texas. It carries on more than 2,000 stations worldwide and is broadcast in 15 languages — a scale that explains why his phrasing turns up in clips and quote collections far from any church setting.
Swindoll was born in El Campo, Texas, in October 1934. He works as an evangelical Christian pastor, and alongside the preaching he has spent his career as an author and an educator, which accounts for the teaching cadence in the material that circulates — points laid out, repeated, built on.
He was also the founding pastor of Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, Texas, and served on its elder board. The pattern across his work is consistency of role rather than reinvention: pulpit, microphone, page, classroom, and largely the same delivery in each.
