Biography

To the people who found bodybuilding through a phone screen rather than a gym magazine, he is simply CBum — the Canadian who won the Mr. Olympia Classic Physique title six years running, from 2019 through to 2024. That run is the longest in the history of the competition, and it is the reason his name carries weight when he talks about training, discipline or competing.

The rise was not instant. He first stepped on stage in 2014 and picked up his IFBB pro card in 2016. Then came two second-place finishes at the Mr. Olympia Classic Physique in 2017 and 2018 — close enough to see the top, not close enough to hold it. The wins started the following year and did not stop until he had six.

Born in Ottawa in February 1995, Bumstead is now retired from professional competition, and is widely regarded as the best Classic Physique competitor the division has produced. His reach went beyond the contest itself: his popularity is often credited with pulling modern bodybuilding into mainstream view on a global scale, drawing in an audience that had never previously followed the sport.
