Biography
The line that tends to reach people first is the simplest one in her work: that you are allowed to claim the power to be who you are. Denice Frohman is a poet, writer and performer who builds that idea out of specifics rather than slogans — race, gender and sexuality, and the places where those things overlap and complicate each other.
She draws directly on her own position as a queer woman from a multi-cultural background. Her writing deals with identity not as a private matter but as something shaped by social constructs and inherited narratives, and much of it functions as an invitation to communities to push back against the ones that work against unity and equity.
She was born and raised in New York City. Alongside her work as a poet and performer she is an educator, and holds a master's degree in education from Drexel University.
