Biography
For a generation of filmgoers, he is the man who made James Bond look easy. Seven times between 1973 and 1985 he took the part, starting with Live and Let Die and ending with A View to a Kill — more outings as Ian Fleming's secret agent than any other actor in the Eon-produced series.
The films came in a steady run: The Man with the Golden Gun in 1974, The Spy Who Loved Me in 1977, Moonraker in 1979, For Your Eyes Only in 1981 and Octopussy in 1983. He was the third actor to play the character for Eon Productions and MGM, following others into a role that had already been established, and he held it for over a decade.
Born in Stockwell in October 1927, the English actor worked in both television and film. He died in May 2017.
