Biography
The reason most people encounter his name is Stoicism — specifically the version of it associated with the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, repackaged as something a person alive now might actually use. Ryan Holiday has spent years arguing that this old philosophy works as a practical lifestyle rather than an academic subject, and that positioning is what most of his readers know him for.
Before that, he was known for something narrower: writing books and then selling them by unconventional means. Marketing is his other trade, and he built a reputation on approaches that sat outside the standard publishing playbook. The two halves of his career aren't really separate — the same instinct for how ideas travel underpins both the books and the campaigns behind them.
Born in Sacramento in 1987, he writes and publishes from the United States, with his own site at ryanholiday.net serving as the central point for his work.
