Biography
For readers who come across him in the context of craft and discipline, the appeal is usually the sheer volume: somewhere in the region of 200 short stories, most of them gathered into collections, alongside the novels that made his name. That output is the argument. Whatever else is said about him, the work exists in quantity.
He is an American author, born in Portland in September 1947, and he has been called the "King of Horror" — the label that stuck, earned by the horror fiction he is most widely read for. He has not stayed in one lane, though. Suspense, crime, science fiction, fantasy and mystery all appear in his catalogue, and he is also described as a television producer.
His full name is Stephen Edwin King. He keeps a website at stephenking.com.
